The Palestinian NGO Network called Saturday for an international community intervention to lift the 16-year Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip. In a statement on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, the network said, “The occupation is the main cause of the humanitarian crises in the Strip, including the unprecedented rise in poverty and unemployment rates and food insecurity in the Gaza Strip because of the continuation of the blockade and repeated Israeli attacks.” The network denounced the Israeli authorities’ restrictions on humanitarian organisations in the occupied Palestinian territories. “The lack of international funding for humanitarian work in occupied Palestine, especially in Gaza, seriously affects the reality of large groups of the Palestinian people, especially in light of the financial crisis experienced by the World Food Programme and UNRWA,” the statement reads.
