RAMALLAH: The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Commission said that the detainees in the Israeli prison of Etzion near the Hebron and Bethlehem governorates are facing harsh and inhumane imprisonment conditions.

The Commission said in a statement that her lawyer was able to visit a number of detainees who confirmed the tragic situation inside the detention center.

It said that detainees were subjected to different types of maltreatment and torture, the latest of which was the case of detainee ‘A.R.’ who was severely beaten on his feet and hands with sticks and rugs during his detention and interrogation, which left traces and scratches on his hands and all over his body.

Meanwhile, the detainee ‘A’ was also subjected to sever assault when a number of soldiers threw him to the ground amidst screaming, cursing using cameras to pressure and provoke him in an inhumane manner.

The Commission confirmed that the documented cases of detentions are only miniature examples, adding that all the detainees in Etzion live in
very difficult conditions without exception, and are subjected to beatings in a frantic manner.

The Commission appealed to all competent authorities, led by international institutions and human rights bodies, to intervene urgently to save the detainees from the brutality of this treatment, which contradicts the most basic human rights, guaranteed by all international human rights laws and regulations.
