Nayef bin Ali Al Abri, President of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Sultanate of Oman, said that the authority has forged strategic alliances as part of the authority’s plans to take tangible steps to promote alternative and sustainable aviation fuels in the coming year.

Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the ongoing third International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3), Al Abri emphasised the authority’s ongoing commitment to a comprehensive, long-term strategy aimed at curbing carbon emissions within the aviation sector.

Speaking about the significance of ICAO’s conference, he underscored the conference’s role in highlighting capacity building, financing, and presenting executable plans to enable the long-term goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050, a commitment made by all ICAO member states.

Acknowledging the UAE’s prominent role in global aviation forums, Al Abri affirmed the effectiveness of partnerships
between the UAE and Oman, rooted in shared visions and ambitions.

As COP28 will be held at the end of this month in Expo Dubai, Al Abri highlighted the timeliness of the CAAF/3 conference, acting as a catalyst for the region, being an active player in the aviation sector and housing a significant number of aircraft fleets in the Gulf and the region.
