Amman: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) stressed the need to preserve the legal and historical status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in the occupied city of Jerusalem, especially the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque in its entire area of 144 dunums, as an exclusive place of worship for Muslims only.
“On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the attempt to burn the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque, the city of Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Palestine, is an integral part of the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967,” the OIC said in a statement on Wednesday, rejecting any measures or decisions aimed at changing its geographical or demographic character, as well as any attempts to impose alleged Israeli sovereignty over this city and its holy sites.
The OIC called on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to assume its responsibilities to put an end to the ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip, end the Israeli colonial occupation and settlement, enable the Palestinian people to res
tore their legitimate rights, including their right to return, and materialize the establishment of their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the relevant UN resolutions.
