VLADIVOSTOK: The 9th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) has concluded in Vladivostok, with over 6,000 representatives from 76 states and territories attending. Various discussion platforms focused on this year’s theme, “Far East 2030: Combining Strengths to Create New Potential”.
The business programme highlighted the development of Russia’s Far Eastern regions and their international relations, alongside global trends in the Asia-Pacific region.
Given China’s role as a key trade and economic partner of the Russian Far East, several forum sessions were dedicated to this relationship. Government officials, regional representatives, and businesses from both countries explored general prospects for the Russia-China partnership, as well as specialised areas such as cooperation in the automotive industry, high-tech sectors, and the creation of a sustainable economy.
In an exclusive interview with TV BRICS, Zhou Liqun, Chairman of the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia, discussed the scale of economic ties betwe
en Moscow and Beijing.
‘For 14 years, China has been Russia’s key partner. Last year, trade turnover between our countries totalled about US$240 billion. It is expected to reach $300 billion by 2030,’ Zhou said.
He also highlighted Chinese businesses’ interest in investing in the development of Russia’s Far East, describing the EEF as an effective platform for establishing business contacts, negotiations, and concluding agreements between the business communities of the two nations. Zhou added that the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan will also play a vital role in strengthening economic and political ties between Russia and China.
India, another significant economic partner of Russia, was also in the spotlight. A business dialogue explored various aspects of Russian-Indian cooperation, with Ksenia Komissarova, Editor-in-Chief of TV BRICS, among the participants. Komissarova spoke about the media network’s collaboration with foreign partners, particularly those in India.
‘India is a strategic direction in o
ur work. It is traditionally one of the most active and interested partners. We cooperate with different media, both public and private, including TV channels,’ Komissarova said.
She added that the TV BRICS partner network currently includes over 70 media outlets from more than 20 BRICS+ countries.
Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar also told TV BRICS that Indian businesses have a long history of involvement in Russia’s Far East.
‘More than 20 years ago, Indian companies started investing in the development of oil fields in Sakhalin,’ Kumar said.
He noted that cooperation between Moscow and New Delhi goes beyond trade in natural resources.
