The late-night decision to extend the truce in the Israeli war on Gaza for two more days and the Israeli army killing of four Palestinians in the northern West Bank city of Jenin, two of them children aged 8 and 15, were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
The main front-page story headline in al-Quds daily said: ‘The temporary truce extended for two more days.’
Al-Ayyam daily front-page story headline said: ‘War cabinet discusses continuing in the exchange deal and expanding it; Blinken arrives in Tel Aviv to press for an extension in the truce.’
The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, opted to make the Israeli occupation army’s killing of four Palestinians in Jenin as its main front-page story headline and said: ‘Four martyrs, wounded, and heavy destruction in the occupation aggression on Jenin and its camp.’
Al-Hayat al-Jadida also highlighted on the lower half of its front page the words of President Mahmoud Abbas on the International Day of Solidarity
with the Palestinian People in which he said: ‘The Gaza Strip is facing an existential threat with premeditated and systematic targeting of civilians.’
It said that five premature babies were found dead at a hospital in Gaza after Israeli soldiers occupied the hospital and left it a few days later and that the Israeli occupation violated the truce, injured one person, and fired artillery shells on Gaza City.
Al-Ayyam also reported on the President’s remarks, the Israeli violation of the truce, the Israeli army assault on Jenin, as well as on the release of the Palestinian prisoners in exchange of Israelis held in Gaza.
It said the search is still underway in Gaza for 7,000 missing people.
Al-Quds also highlighted the speeches made by various foreign ministers at the United Nations Security Council meeting on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which coincides with the passage at the UN Partition of Palestine Resolution 181 on November 29, 1947, and gave promine
nce for the statements by the Saudi, Qatari and Jordanian foreign ministers, as well as the remarks by the UN Secretary-General.
It quoted American press reports saying that US President Joe Biden is facing splits in the White House and outside it over his administration’s support for the Israeli war on Gaza.
