Newspapers Review: Dailies highlight Israeli army measures in Hebron area, death of Wagner leader

The ongoing Israeli repressive measures and collective punishment in the Hebron area, as well as confrontations with soldiers in other West Bank areas and the death in a plane crash of Wagner Russian leader Yevgeny Prigozhin were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today. Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida dailies said soldiers broke into the Hebron homes of two Palestinians detained on allegation of attacking settlers in the Hebron area earlier this week and took measurements of the homes in preparation to demolish them. They also said soldiers raided several other West Bank towns where confrontations broke out between Palestinians and the soldiers. Al-Ayyam said Israel plans to demolish three homes in the Nablus district for families of alleged attackers. The third daily, al-Quds, while also reporting on the situation in Hebron, highlighted in its main front-page story headline the death of Wagner leader in a plane crash north of Moscow and reported on reactions in the US and Ukraine to his death. The other two dailies also reported on the plane crash but did not highlight it on their front page. The three dailies also highlighted Israeli plans to increase the number of settlers in the occupied territories to one million and al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted the Palestinian Foreign Ministry considering it a blatant challenge to the international community, which has failed to implement UN Security Council resolution 2334. Al-Quds said the situation in the West Bank is deteriorating in light of the exchange of threats between the Palestinian factions, and said the Israeli Defense Minister is considering attacks against Hamas, while the latter says the resistance will not stop and will continue in its war of attrition against the occupation. It said the factions in Gaza and abroad have increased their state of alert in anticipation of an Israeli attack. It quoted Peace Now saying that fascist Israeli cabinet minister Itamar Ben Gvir is leading the racial segregation process. Al-Ayyam said the Israeli government approved a plane to spend 230 million shekels to complete the so-called American road in occupied East Jerusalem, a belt road around the city. Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israel continues to violate the health rights of the Palestinian freedom fighters in its jails.
