Deputizing for Prime Minister, Bisher Khasawneh, Minister of Environment, Muawieh Radaideh inaugurated the ecological park in the Martyr Wasfi Al-Tal Forest in Balqa Governorate, western Jordan, on Tuesday.
Radaideh emphasized the importance of his ministry’s role as part of Jordan’s national efforts to provide appropriate places that serve the interests of citizens and provide them with a safe environment for recreation and spread environmental awareness among all its segments of the society, as well as preserving and sustaining the environment in healthy ways that positively reflect on citizens public safety.
He pointed out the importance of materializing the partnership between the public and private sectors to care for and preserve forested areas by assuming their social responsibilities, similar to what the management of the Central Trade and Auto Company (CTA) – Markazia “Toyota” did in assuming its social responsibility to finance the ecological park project, with the aim of providing a suitable plac
e for hiking, spreading environmental awareness and reducing indiscriminate dumping of waste in public places and parks.
For his part, CTA CEO Nadim Haddad said that funding the project is a national and participatory duty to achieve environmental sustainability across the Kingdom, and part of the company’s responsibility and sustainability strategy to contribute effectively to addressing the environmental challenges facing Jordan and enhancing environmental performance, which stems from our awareness of the importance of climate change that we face today, as climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing the international community in the 21st century, which is reflected on the environment and human health, in addition to its ability to negatively affect economic growth.
The ceremony included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture, the CTA and the municipality of Ain Al Basha, which stipulates sustaining the park project from all concerned
parties.
CTA will finance the project and provide the best services for hikers to ensure its sustainability, as the park is built on a 30-dunam plot of land that includes green spaces, walkways, squares and playgrounds for children, in addition to administration buildings, health units, a cafeteria, parking lots and other facilities and services.
