The National Council for Women (NCW), headed by Maya Morsi, expressed on Monday its full rejection of any opinions justifying violence against women.
In a statement, the council totally refused any misleading legal arguments, which are being used to justify and promote violence against women, praising all measures taken by the State to guarantee the protection of women from all forms of violence.
The council said it sides with Al Azhar’s stance, which has always totally repudiated opinions, behavior, practices or customs that are disrespectful to women.
It warned anyone who incites the use of violence against women under any justification or on the grounds of tradition or religion.
This statement was issued to comment on remarks by one of the interviewees at a talk show, who used misleading legal justifications and some religious texts to back his opinion which prefers the use of violence against women under the pretext of disciplining them.
