Chairwoman of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsi said significant achievements in women empowerment are credited to the full support of the political leadership.
Morsi’s comments came during her participation on Friday 19/11/2021 in a National Policy Dialogue on strategies and legislation to combat violence against women, which was organized by the EU, the Euromed Feminist Initiative (IFE), ACT Foundation and Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality (EFDE).
The purpose of this dialogue is to create a forum for advocating the actual implementation of the 4th United Nations Ministerial Declaration on preventing and eliminating violence against women and domestic abuse, as well as to increase awareness and commit governments to action.
The NCW head added that Egyptian women should make the best use of what she called as the golden age to gain more rights.
She reviewed Egypt’s efforts to empower women, citing the launching of the 2030 National Women’s Empowerment Strategy and the National Human Rights Strategy that addressed women’s rights as an essential part of human rights.
Morsi noted that Egypt was the first Arab country to conduct a survey on the economic cost of violence against women.
She asserted that Egypt was the first country in the world to issue a rapid response policy towards women and a Women Policy Tracker during the coronavirus pandemic.
