NCW head confirms interest in supporting women empowerment

President of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsi affirmed the interest that Egypt attaches to supporting the empowerment of women in order to achieve economic, social and cultural development nationwide.

Morsi was speaking while participating Monday in the activities of the high-level dialogue on “intellectual property rights” at Cairo University, which was held as part of the official reception of visiting Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Darn Tang.

Morsi said that the total number of patents issued for inventions over the past 10 years for male and female Egyptians reached 965, including 131 women and 318 patents for both men and women.

Women represent 43% of the researchers in Egypt, and this percentage exceeds international rates or the international barrier, according to her.
