Chairperson of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsi thanked Egypt’s First Lady Mrs Entissar El Sisi for her support of issues related to the Egyptian women and girls.

This came during her participation in celebrations to mark International Women’s Day, with Mrs Sisi attending.

Speaking on the occasion, Morsi said that the whole world celebrates the women’s day on March 8 every year in appreciation of their role and efforts.

The Egyptian women are living their “golden era”, thanks to the political leadership that backs women’s empowerment and believes in protecting their rights as the main pillar of the society’s progress and prosperity, Morsi said.

She further underlined that the “Noura” and “Dawwie” initiatives, which were launched in 2022, aim at empowering the Egyptian girls.

The United Nations in Egypt supports Egypt on two national initiatives, under the auspices of the First Lady of Egypt and within the framework of the Egyptian National Family Planning Project; “Noura and Dawwie.”

The “Noura” initiative was launched by the NCW with the support of the UN Population Fund in Egypt (UNFPA Egypt) and in partnership with the ministries of planning, international cooperation, emigration and the National Council For Childhood and Motherhood.

The National Girls’ Empowerment Initiative “Dawwie” reaches nearly half a million people on the ground and over 60 million online.

She also talked about the “Girls Mile” initiative, which is a one-mile run around the lake of National Egyptian Museum of Civilization, to advocate for the rights of girls in Egypt to live a healthy, educated and safe life held on October 15, 2022, to celebrate International Day of the Girl Child.
