NCM inaugurates new regional training centre affiliated with World Meteorological Organisation

ABU DHABI: The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), in the presence of Dr. Abdullah Al Mandous, Director-General of NCM and President of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), inaugurated the new Regional Training Centre affiliated with WMO.

The inauguration ceremony was accompanied by a seminar on the management of regional training centres in Africa, Asia, and the Southwest Pacific.

Omar Al Yazidi, Deputy Director-General of NCM, delivered the opening speech on behalf of Dr. Abdullah Al Mandous. In his speech, Al Yazidi emphasised the importance of enhancing the competencies of meteorology experts to ensure the provision of accurate and reliable weather and climate information, which supports informed decision-making and strengthens efforts towards sustainable development.

He also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the UAE government and Dr. Al Mandous for their continuous support in developing regional and global capacities in this field.

In a special statement on this occasion, Dr. Abd
ullah Al Mandous expressed his deep appreciation for the participants in the seminar, praising the efforts made and the constructive interaction demonstrated by the attendees.

He noted that this seminar represents an ideal opportunity to enhance cooperation between regional training centres and to exchange expertise and knowledge, contributing to the improvement of training levels in meteorology.

Dr. Al Mandous added, ‘This gathering reflects our shared commitment to strengthening capacities and competencies in the field of meteorology worldwide, which is part of our vision to promote sustainable development and address the challenges of climate change.’

Dr. Al Mandous further pointed out that the establishment of the new Regional Training Center in Abu Dhabi is a significant step towards enhancing professional competencies in meteorology across the region. He emphasised that the centre will offer advanced training programs and resources to support continuous professional development.

The seminar, held in
conjunction with the inauguration, witnessed the participation of directors and representatives from regional training centres around the world. It focused on ways to improve coordination between regional training centres and the WMO’s education and training offices, develop regional and global training policies, and enhance collaboration with the WMO Secretariat.

The seminar provided a valuable opportunity for exchanging experiences and knowledge among the representatives, contributing to the strengthening of professional relationships and opening new avenues for cooperation between regional training centres.

At the conclusion of the event, the NCM reaffirmed its full commitment to providing continuous support to meteorological communities and working to enhance their capabilities to effectively address climate challenges.
