Balqa: The Director of the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), Nizar Haddad, and the Director of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), Nasr al-Din Obaid, Saturday discussed training, horticulture and livestock cooperation.

Haddad said in a meeting that the completion rate in the seed bank project reached 55 per cent and work on the project is “proceeding according to plan,” adding that the project work began in July, and the bank building would be delivered in the middle of 2024.

Haddad talked about areas of cooperation with ACSAD in pioneering projects related to countering climate challenges, including developing drought-tolerant wheat and barley varieties, adaptive cropping projects in saline lands and projects related to livestock and camel research.

He stressed that ACSAD “plays an important and effective role” in encouraging cooperation between Arab countries on agriculture and food security challenges, building capabilities and providing technical support.

O
baid urged Arab countries to explore the Jordanian experience in developing the National Seed Bank and to benefit from preserving plant assets and seeds, especially the genetic fingerprint of olive trees, wheat and barley seeds.
