ABU DHABI: The Muslim Council of Elders, under the chairmanship of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, commended the efforts of the Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS). The group includes the United Arab Emirates, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, the African Union, Switzerland, and the United Nations.
ALPS works to alleviate the humanitarian suffering faced by the people of Sudan and enhance the prospects for peace and stability in the country.
In a statement, the Muslim Council of Elders emphasised that the new framework agreed upon during the group’s meetings in Switzerland will significantly contribute to easing the suffering of the Sudanese people.
This includes ensuring safe and unhindered humanitarian access and committing to improving the protection of civilians, especially women and children. The Council highlighted the urgent need to implement the provisions of the ALPS group’s statement immediately to addres
s the dire humanitarian situation affecting millions of Sudanese people.
The Muslim Council of Elders reaffirms its support for all efforts aimed at reaching a lasting resolution to the Sudanese crisis through peaceful means. It advocates prioritising wisdom, halting internal conflict, ending divisions, and fostering reconciliation and solidarity among the Sudanese people. This aims to achieve a final agreement that ensures the unity of Sudanese territories and fulfills the aspirations of the Sudanese people for safety, peace, and stability.
