Mufti: Wednesday, February 2, 2022, is the first day of Rajab

Mufti of Egypt Shawki Allam announced that Wednesday, February 2, 2022, will be the first day of the month of Rajab 1443 (A.H.), the seventh month of the Islamic calendar.

In a statement, Allam said committees affiliated to Dar al-Iftaa succeeded in sighting the crescent that marks the end of Jumada al-Akher and the start of Rajab.

Allam greeted President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the Egyptian and Muslim peoples around the world on the occasion.

The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) had said earlier that Wednesday will be the first day of Rajab and that based on astronomical calculations the month will last for 30 days.

The first day of Rajab marks the beginning of a particular spiritual season for all Muslims. The other months of this season are Sha’ban, and Ramadan. The Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is reported to have said, “Rajab is the month of almighty God, Sha’ban is my month, and Ramadan is the month of my people’’.

According to many scholars, the 27th of Rajab was the day that the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) was taken on the Isra and Mi’raj (the Night Journey) and was appointed to prophethood (Mabath).
