MoU signed to help people with disabilities vote in next parliamentary elections


Amman: The Independent Election Commission (IE) on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of providing legal assistance to persons with disabilities during the upcoming Lower House of Representative elections.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, IEC Chairman, Musa Maaitah, highlighted the importance of the memo as part of the current preparations to hold the next parliamentary elections under the new Election Law, which gave the right to all Jordanians, especially persons with disabilities, to exercise their right to vote in elections and join political parties.

According to an IEC statement , he said the commission has equipped 95 schools nationwide, in cooperation with Ministry of Education as “model” polling stations that suit capabilities of persons with disabilities to vote “easily and smoothly.”

The memo was signed with Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) and the Jordan Bar Association (JBA).
