Morocco’s FM Underlines HM the King’s Constant Support for Palestinian Cause

New York (United Nations) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, stressed, on Monday in New York, the constant support of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, for the Palestinian cause and people.

Speaking at a ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Bourita said that Morocco places the Palestinian issue on the same level as its first national cause and has made it a constant in its foreign policy. The Kingdom supports the Palestinian Authority in all its efforts to safeguard the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, he said.

The minister noted that His Majesty the King, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has set four imperative priorities to end the cycle of violence, the first being the urgent need to de-escalate tensions with a view to a permanent and verifiable ceasefire and the protection of civilians in compliance with international law and international humanitarian law.

It is equally vital to ensure the smooth delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza and to promote a political perspective on the Palestinian question that can revive the two-state solution, he stated.

Morocco’s FM also stressed the need to preserve the character of the city of Al Quds and its legal, cultural, historical, and demographic status as a spiritual center of coexistence and understanding between the followers of the three monotheistic religions.

Referring to South-South cooperation, Bourita pointed out that Morocco, in line with the Royal Vision, places partnership with other African countries at the core of its priorities through effective partnerships in strategic development sectors such as food security, health, and training.

In this context, he recalled HM King Mohammed VI’s speech at the 13th NAM Summit, in which the Sovereign emphasized that Morocco “hopes to make South-South cooperation a priority issue. It goes without saying that it is in the interest of our countries to promote cooperation and partnership between them by enhancing their self-reliance in their joint effort to meet the challenges of globalization.”

Aware of the difficulties facing the countries of the Sahel and Sahara, HM the King launched an international initiative on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the Glorious Green March, aimed at giving the countries of this region access to the Atlantic, Bourita added.

According to the minister, this Royal initiative is an extension of Morocco’s active support and solidarity and of His Majesty the King’s personal commitment to the countries of the Sahel and underlines the prime importance the Sovereign attaches to the human dimension and sustainable development of this region of the continent.
