Rabat – Morocco’s tourism revenues surged to a record 76.4 billion dirhams ($7.4 billion) during the first eight months of 2024, marking a 7% increase in cumulative revenues, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy.

In August alone, foreign currency tourism inflows reached an unprecedented 17 billion dirhams ($1.6 billion), a sharp 20% rise compared to the same month last year, the ministry pointed out in a press release.

“These results confirm the unprecedented momentum of Moroccan tourism. This record revenue is driven by an exceptional number of arrivals – 1.8 million visitors in August and 11.8 million since the start of the year,’ explained Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy.

The minister added that “these figures validate the effectiveness of our strategic roadmap. We aim to sustain this growth by diversifying and enhancing our local tourism offerings, which will help extend visitor stays and increase their o
verall contribution to the economy.”

The robust performance underscores Morocco’s growing appeal as a global tourist destination, bolstered by key initiatives to improve infrastructure, promote cultural heritage, and tap into new international markets.
