Rabat – In a diplomatic exchange, the High Commissioner for Planning in Morocco, Ahmed Lahlimi Alami, engaged in talks on Monday with Isabelle Valois, the Canadian Ambassador to Morocco, focusing on enhancing cooperation in the realm of gender-sensitive statistical data collection, analysis, and publication.
During the meeting held in the Moroccan capital city of Rabat, both parties explored avenues to bolster their collaboration across statistical and socio-economic domains, contemplating broadening the partnership to encompass other areas of mutual interest.
Lahlimi underscored Canada’s international acclaim for its advanced statistical expertise and comprehensive studies addressing diverse issues such as employment access, healthcare, and gender dynamics. He emphasized the potential for substantial collaboration between the two nations, particularly through joint efforts with the High Commission for Planning (HCP), to proactively address pertinent socio-economic challenges.
The discussions coincided wit
h the conclusion of a significant study titled “The Intersectional Analysis of Women’s Participation in the Moroccan Labor Market: A Comparative Study between the Casablanca-Settat Region and the Oriental Region,” conducted under the auspices of Canada’s Technical Assistance Partnership – Expert Deployment Mechanism (PAT-MDE) and facilitated by the HCP.
This study illuminates the multifaceted barriers impeding women’s engagement in the Moroccan labor market, shedding light on the intricate interplay between individual, social, and contextual factors influencing their participation.
In response, Ambassador Valois reiterated Canada’s steadfast commitment to gender equality and equity, highlighting the nation’s legislative reforms and substantive progress in advancing women’s rights. She expressed Canada’s readiness to share expertise and best practices with Morocco, particularly in the realm of gender equality, to foster a more inclusive and equitable society.
