Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawi said Friday that greater interest is being paid to upgrading government-run slaughterhouses nationwide under strict instructions by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to ensure the safety and quality of meat and protect the environment and public health through moving all slaughterhouses away from residential areas.
Shaarawi’s remarks came during his meeting with a delegation of Care Construction & Maintenance, to discuss the company’s proposal to upgrade and operate slaughterhouses nationwide.
The minister reiterated the government’s desire to enhance the role of the private sector in the national economy, welcoming all the committed companies seeking to hold partnerships with the government in various fields.
They probed the project of upgrading and developing the government-owned slaughterhouses, supervised by the Ministry of Local Development, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Housing’s central agency for reconstruction.
The project aims at developing 150 slaughterhouses as a first phase.
