MoEI advances collaboration in water with Korea’s Ministry of Environment


DUBAI: The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) received a delegation from the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Environment to discuss the latest developments and share experiences in the water sector.

As part of the three-day visit, the UAE-Republic of Korea Joint Committee for Water Resources held its regular meeting, headed by Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI Sharif Al Olama; and Director of Water Industry and International Cooperation Division at the Korean Ministry of Environment Jewon MOON.

The Committee sought to enhance bilateral cooperation in the water sector, taking into account global changes and serving the best interest of both nations.

Moreover, the Republic of Korea’s delegation toured the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s water network control centre and learned about the pioneering water desalination projects and smart management technologies in water production, transport, and distribution.

In addition, they were briefed about the Water Security Strat
egy 2036 that aims to reduce the loss in the water network, decrease total demand for water resources by 21%, and increase the reuse of treated water to 95%.

Al Olama commended the long-standing ties between the UAE and the Republic of Korea that has grown stronger in the past few years with the support of leaders of both nations. He underscored that this visit built on a long track record of successful partnerships and reflected a mutual desire to expand and strengthen areas of collaboration.

He reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to working with other nations to achieve its sustainable development objectives.
