Cairo: The Ministry of Health and Population, in partnership with Viatris, has announced a presidential initiative aimed at supporting mental health in Egypt, titled ‘Your Health is Happiness’. This initiative aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, following directives from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, and seeks to enhance medical services for citizens by focusing on mental health.
According to State Information Service Egypt, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry and Viatris Egypt to promote mental health awareness, early diagnosis, and access to treatment. Dr. Mohamed Hassany and Dr. Mohamed Adel Sweilem were the signatories of the MOU, which is part of the broader framework to improve healthcare in line with the country’s long-term vision.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about mental health issues, facilitate early detection of conditions, and ensure equitable access to treatment for all Egyptians, including women, men, and adolescents. The launch event, held at Abdeen Palace,
was attended by key figures such as Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Dr. Maya Morsy, and Ms. Hero Mustafa, highlighting the collaborative efforts to tackle mental health challenges.
During the ceremony, it was revealed that the initiative, also known as ‘Sehetak Saada’, will involve public awareness campaigns across various platforms and advanced training for healthcare providers to improve diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that the initiative covers several areas, including early detection and intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorder, with collaborations for advanced diagnostic techniques.
Additionally, the initiative addresses addiction in various forms, provides psychological support to specific groups like pregnant women and chronic disease patients, and covers the diagnosis and treatment of depression.
