ASSIUT: The Ministry of Environment has announced a significant investment of LE 250 million to establish an advanced waste recycling and processing facility in the Refa district of Assiut Governorate. This initiative is a cornerstone of Egypt’s National Solid Waste Management Program, aiming to modernize waste management systems and support sustainable development goals.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the facility will cover 56,000 square meters and integrate cutting-edge German-Dutch technology. It will feature two processing lines capable of managing 60 tons of waste per hour. The construction is set to last 18 months and will include comprehensive infrastructure, mechanical processing lines, and a robust operational framework. Emphasis will also be placed on workforce training to ensure expertise in operations and maintenance, which is crucial for the facility’s long-term success.
The plant is expected to have a substantial economic impact, creating 100 direct and 2,000 indirect job oppor
tunities. This will enhance local employment and economic growth in the region. The facility will produce high-value outputs, such as high-quality organic fertilizers for the agricultural sector and refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to provide eco-friendly energy for industries. These products will not only address regional demands but also contribute to national economic development.
Aligned with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives, this project underscores Egypt’s strategy to improve waste management infrastructure. It aims to reduce pollution and enhance environmental and public health conditions. By advancing recycling and processing systems, the plant will promote cleaner air, water, and soil, conserving natural resources in the process.
This initiative represents a significant step toward sustainable environmental and economic progress in Egypt, fostering industrial growth, creating valuable products, and setting a standard for modern waste management solutions in the region.
