CAIRO: The Ministry of Environment, under the leadership of Minister Yasmine Fouad, has been awarded the prestigious Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award by Esri, acknowledging its outstanding use of geographic information systems (GIS) in biodiversity protection and management. The award ceremony took place at a hotel in Cairo, celebrating the ministry’s innovative efforts in leveraging GIS technology.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the SAG Award is part of Esri’s recognition program for its global partners who effectively utilize GIS to tackle complex data challenges and provide innovative solutions. The event was graced by notable attendees including Ali Abu Senah, CEO of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), Hashem Hemida, CEO of Esri North Africa, alongside other prominent officials.
Minister Fouad emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to digital transformation and the integration of modern technologies within the environmental sector. She stated, “The Environment Ministry i
s exerting utmost effort to achieve President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s vision towards environmental protection and sustainable resource management.” This recognition highlights the ministry’s successful project in monitoring and documenting biodiversity within Egypt’s nature reserves.
The minister also highlighted the development of environmental monitoring systems by the ministry, focusing on air and water quality as key components. She stressed the importance of digital transformation in enhancing institutional efficiency and effectiveness, and expressed her appreciation for the teamwork within the ministry and the support from Esri.
Esri, a pioneer in GIS software, location intelligence, and mapping, has been a leader in the field since 1969. The company is renowned for its contributions to geographic science and geospatial analytics, often referred to as “The Science of Where.”
