Cairo: The ministries of Industry and Higher Education have convened meetings to strategize on maximizing the role of scientific research in advancing Egypt’s industrial and transportation sectors. The collaboration aims to address the challenges facing these sectors through innovative solutions and technological advancements.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Egyptian Minister of Industry and Transport, and Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Kamel el-Wazir, held an extensive meeting with Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ayman Ashour, along with several leaders from both ministries. Minister El-Wazir emphasized the potential of this partnership to tackle various industrial challenges, leveraging Egypt’s substantial scientific resources and skilled workforce.
Minister El-Wazir highlighted the ministry’s priorities, which include resolving issues related to fuel and energy, particularly focusing on new and renewable energy sources, and improving energy effic
iency. The collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research aims to develop solutions for these challenges while ensuring the availability of water to meet the industrial and agricultural sectors’ demands.
The Deputy Prime Minister outlined key areas for future cooperation, such as exploring technological processes for utilizing iron ore in production and activating the role of the Metals and Mining Department at the Tebbin Institute for Metallurgical Studies. This initiative seeks to enhance coordination between the two ministries to further industrial development.
Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, described the integration of scientific research with industrial innovation as crucial for economic development. He presented the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research 2030, which aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030. The strategy identifies promising economic activities across Egypt’s seven regions and formulates an action plan
for industry, agriculture, tourism, trade, construction, health, and communications.
Dr. Ashour also mentioned the Alliance and Development Initiative, launched under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s auspices, which fosters academic alliances to support regional economic needs and advance a knowledge-based economy. Moreover, he discussed future projects, such as the production of low-speed electric cars (EV-Tech), with the first batch of 100 experimental vehicles manufactured in the Fifth Settlement’s industrial zone. The initiative aims to increase the local component of these vehicles to 83 percent within the next three years.
