Ministers Strategize Tourism Investment Plan UNESCO Site Umm al-Jimal

Amman: Ministers of Tourism and Antiquities Makram Qaisi and Investment Kholoud Saqqaf outlined plans on Monday to develop a tourism investment strategy for the archaeological site of Umm al-Jimal, now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

In a meeting at the Ministry of Tourism, Qaisi presented Saqqaf with an executive plan to elevate Umm al-Jimal’s profile, aiming to attract both domestic and international investors.

This session followed Qaisi’s recent gathering with the “Post-Inscription Team for Umm al-Jimal,” established to draft detailed action plans and timelines for the site’s development.

Qaisi instructed the team to revamp the visitor center and train 10 local tour guides, ensuring a cohesive and informative visitor experience.

He emphasized that securing UNESCO status is merely the starting point. The ministry, in partnership with the Umm al-Jimal Municipality, will proceed step-by-step to turn this milestone into a comprehensive development project that benefits both the site and the lo
cal community.

The ministers also discussed organizing a high-profile event at Umm al-Jimal, featuring ambassadors, business leaders, and international dignitaries to underscore the site’s historical and cultural significance.

A media tour is scheduled for later this week, with participation from the ministers and Government Spokesperson Muhannad Mobaideen. This tour aims to assess the site’s infrastructure and collaborate with the local mayor on a tourism investment strategy.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Tourism has inked a memorandum of understanding with the Umm al-Jimal Municipality to construct a new entrance gate, enhancing the visitor welcome experience and reflecting the site’s historical importance.
