Minister of Women: Our first priority is to protect women who are victims of occupation violence and crimes

Ramallah – Ma’an – Minister of Women’s Affairs, Mona Al-Khalili, stressed that the first priority of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs at the current stage is to protect women who are victims of the violence and crimes of the occupation, especially what women in the Gaza Strip and our people in general are exposed to in terms of a war of genocide and atrocities in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank. She stressed that confronting the consequences and effects of aggression against women, supporting them, and exposing the occupation’s violations against women requires cooperation, integration, and harmony between various official and civil institutions, especially the Ministries of Women’s Affairs and Social Development.

This came during Minister Al-Khalili’s meeting today with the Minister of Social Development, Dr. Samah Abu Aoun. The meeting focused on discussing areas of intersection, partnership and cooperation between the two ministries in the service of Palestinian women and their issues in political part
icipation, social and legal protection, and empowerment in its various forms.

The meeting focused on ways to support women in the Gaza Strip at various levels, the institutional arrangements to achieve this, and openness to a real partnership with civil society institutions and various components of Palestinian society. The two ministers also discussed intersectional files, common issues, and how to achieve policy and program harmony in issues of protection, relief, and empowerment in a way that achieves the best interest of women.

Al-Khalili stressed the keenness of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs to consolidate institutional arrangements with the Ministry of Social Development, and its keenness to activate joint national committees and mechanisms between the two ministries to ensure outcomes worthy of the status of Palestinian women.

For her part, the Minister of Social Development expressed full readiness for cooperation and coordination between the two ministries, especially in the field of relief, sup
port and protection of women in the Gaza Strip. The Minister presented the programs and activities of the Ministry of Social Development in the field of relief, combating poverty, and protection for women.

The Minister of Social Development stressed the Ministry’s readiness to cooperate in the field of reviewing and developing legislation, policies, systems and procedures related to women in a way that ensures the advancement of the situation of Palestinian women at various levels.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to complete the discussion of various issues and intersections between the two ministries in order to reach a clearly defined and implementable plan.
