Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met on September 25, 2024, with the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program UNDP, Achim Steiner, at the United Nations headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the UNDP role in supporting development efforts in Egypt and cooperating in enhancing public policies which promote economic and social development. He also indicated Egypt’s aspiration for the UNDP to increase its contributions to support Egypt’s efforts, especially in development projects that aim to create job opportunities, attract foreign investments, and increase production, in line with the Egyptian government’s priorities.
Moreover, Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting UN efforts in advancing sustainable development in the Arab region, under the ongoing political, security, economic and social challenges, as Egy
pt is a key partner of UNDP in implementing these efforts. In this context, he reviewed the exacerbating humanitarian conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories due to the Israeli aggression, outlining Egypt’s efforts to prevent escalation, and emphasizing the importance of the United Nations playing its role through its various agencies in order to alleviate the human tragedy endured by the population of the Strip.
The Foreign Minister also stressed the necessity of paying further attention to Sudan and the humanitarian conditions there, thus to contribute to supporting the Sudanese people during this current stage.
