Minister: Egypt Achieved Self-Sufficiency in Some Strategic Crops.


Abu Dhabi: Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk met with Brik Aren, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), to discuss prospects for joint cooperation between the ministry and the organization during the coming period. This discussion took place on the sidelines of the World Food Summit in Abu Dhabi.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Farouk reviewed the efforts of the Egyptian state to achieve food security amid global challenges affecting food supply chains worldwide. He highlighted that Egypt has attained self-sufficiency in certain strategic crops and exports surplus from around 400 commodities to over 160 markets globally.

During the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture affirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide all forms of support to the IOFS to achieve its objectives, including offering expertise and capacity-building for member states.

The Director General of the IOFS, Brik Aren, discussed initiatives by the organization aimed at a
ddressing food security challenges in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). He emphasized the significance of leveraging Egypt’s extensive experience in agriculture and food security.

Both parties concluded the meeting by underscoring the importance of ongoing cooperation between Egypt and the IOFS to promote sustainable solutions for developing the agricultural sector in OIC Member States and ensuring long-term food security in the Islamic world.
