Under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), the 15th edition of the Mining Show kicked off today in Dubai. The two-day event draws the participation of local, regional, and international mining stakeholders. As the largest of its kind, the Mining Show is an annual platform for governments, businesses, and investors to network and explore the latest developments in the field.
The event will host over 100 industry leading speakers who engage with participants in over 40 panel sessions. The accompanying exhibition hosts 150 exhibitors showcasing cutting edge solutions from the region.
Khalid Al Hosani, Director of Geology and Mineral Resources Department at MoEI, delivered the opening speech. He said, ‘The Mining Show comes at a critical time for the mining sector. We are facing unprecedented demand for minerals, driven by the global transition to clean energy and the rise of new technologies. At the same time, we are under increasing pressure to reduce our environmental impact an
d operate more sustainably.’
He added, ‘This year’s conference coincides with the United Arab Emirates’ Year of Sustainability, which upholds an explicit commitment to acting today for a better tomorrow. Also, this year, we will host the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), that promises to be a COP of Action and a COP of Unity. The highly anticipated conference offers us an important opportunity to showcase the mining sector’s potential to contribute to building a more sustainable future.
‘The United Arab Emirates is determined to lead the way in sustainable mining. We have set ambitious targets for reducing our carbon footprint and water consumption, and we are investing heavily in new technologies and practices to improve our environmental performance. To better inform our efforts, we launched the first Mineral Resources Strategy in the UAE. It aims to increase the sector’s share in the non-oil GDP to 5 percent by 2030, increase the number of mining companies in the UAE, and enhance the sustainabil
ity of the sector. Regionally, we are partnering with other countries to share best practices and collaborate on research and development.’
