Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Wednesday chaired an urgent cabinet session following a deadly Israeli enemy strike on a building in Haret Hreik in the southern suburbs of Beirut (Dahieh).
“We strongly condemn the attack on Dahieh,” said Mikati, urging the concerned states and the international community to curb escalation.
Mikati also condemned the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh, warning of growing risks and concerns following the killing.
“My call to the Lebanese is to join hands and demonstrate unity,” he said, stressing rejection of any attack on any region in Lebanon. “We also urge the full implementation of UN Resolution 1701,” he added.
“Bombing Dahieh is bombing the pacification efforts,” he said. “We will continue working to save our country and protect our society from any danger,” he stressed. “Lebanon does not want war; it wants to preserve the dignity of its sons and its sovereignty on the land, and in the air and the sea,” he concluded.
