Microfund for Women (MFW) won the 2024 Mahatma Gandhi Award for its role in empowering women economically and socially and creating a “positive” social impact on the beneficiaries’ lives.
The award is granted to leaders and institutions with social impact, working to achieve a “sustainable” future, in honor and appreciation of their roles in bringing about “positive” change in societies, according to a MFW statement.
In remarks to “Petra” Wednesday, MFW CEO, Lama Zawati, said the award came in appreciation and recognition of MFW’s efforts in the microfinance field, which directly contributed to improve the lives of thousands of women and their families in Jordan.
Since its establishment in 1996, as a private, non-profit company, Zawati said the company has been “keen” to provide “innovative” financial services to women in Jordan’s various villages and rural areas.
Through its 63 branches across the Kingdom, she said the company seeks to build capacities and provide the necessary training for women to “su
ccessfully and effectively” manage their small projects.
