Media Minister: Jordanian Women Advance in Leadership Roles

Minister of Government Communications Muhannad Mubaideen Tuesday highlighted the advancement of Jordanian women in leadership roles across various sectors in the past 25 years under the reign of His Majesty King Abdullah.

He said at a program to empower female media professionals to take leadership positions, hosted by the Jordan Media Institute that women made significant strides, particularly in the political field through legislative amendments regulating political life, including the Political Parties and Election Laws, which guaranteed enhanced representation for women in the upcoming parliament.

Mubaideen, who is also official government spokesperson, highlighted women’s achievements and dedication to deliver quality content, urging a focus on local communities and women’s success stories in the workplace.

Dean of the Jordan Media Institute, Mirna Abu Zeid, outlined the program’s three key tracks: capacity building, mentorship, and professional networking. The program, grounded in equal opportunities
and competitiveness, attracted participants from across Jordan, with a selection criteria reviewed by a panel of experts.

Abu Zeid highlighted the Makanati project, designed to nurture leaders across various sectors, with a particular focus on journalism and media, and thanked the Ministry of Government Communications, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and project staff for their support.

John Williams, Deputy Director of USAID’s Makanati project for women’s economic and leadership empowerment, emphasized cooperation in supporting and promoting women in the media industry. The program, targeting 60 female journalists and media professionals, offers comprehensive skill-building beyond traditional training, covering topics such as digital transformation and investigative journalism.
