Maya Morsy Discusses Humanitarian Challenges with UN Officials in Egypt


Cairo: Dr Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity, engaged in a meeting with Mr Tom Fletcher, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Emergency Relief Coordinator, along with Ms Elena Panova, UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt, and Mr Jean-Luc, Regional Coordinator of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The delegation was accompanied by Dr Amal Imam, Executive Director of the Egyptian Red Crescent, Ms Dina El-Sayarfi, Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity for International Cooperation and International Agreements and Relations, and Ms Amira Taj El-Din, Director General of the General Administration for Agreements and International Relations, at the Ministry of Social Solidarity.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting opened with Dr Morsy’s welcome to the UN delegation, followed by a discussion on the ministry’s initiatives and potential cooperative efforts with the United Nations. The discussions centered on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, amidst the current ceasefire agreement, and explored the broader implications of the ongoing crisis.



The discussion also focused on the future needs of the Gaza Strip and Egypt’s contributions to providing humanitarian aid to the area. Egypt’s significant role in delivering this aid to support the Palestinian population amid the crisis was highlighted, emphasizing the country’s substantial efforts in this regard.



Mr Fletcher commended the Egyptian Red Crescent for its role in aiding the Gaza Strip and acknowledged the cooperation between the organization and the United Nations. The meeting also covered the humanitarian situation in Sudan, where discussions included potential support measures in collaboration with the African Union. Dr Morsy reiterated the Egyptian Red Crescent’s ongoing efforts in response to the crisis since its onset.
