Cairo: Dr. Maya Morsi, the Minister of Social Solidarity, held a meeting with Mr. Carlos Oliver Cruz, the Head of the United Nations International Organization for Migration Office in Egypt, and his delegation. The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Dr. Amal Imam, Executive Director of the Egyptian Red Crescent, and Ms. Dina Al-Sayarfi, Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity for International Cooperation, Relations, and International Agreements.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the Ministry and the International Organization for Migration to support migrants and returnees. This initiative aligns with the Egyptian state’s priorities to bolster social protection mechanisms for these groups. The strategy of the International Organization for Migration in Egypt, which includes supporting migration policies, developing employment and human development programs, protecting migrants, enhancing community stability, and responding to migration-related emergencies, was reviewed during the meeting.
The meeting highlighted the importance of solidifying cooperation between the Ministry and the organization, especially in providing social and psychological support to returnees. This is crucial for ensuring their economic and social stability, in line with sustainable development efforts. Comprehensive reintegration programs and specialized training in migration governance and case management were also discussed. These programs aim to train social workers, law enforcement officials, and service providers to support returnees and victims of human trafficking.
Both parties explored ways to expand joint programs and build the capacities of specialized personnel to ensure high-quality service delivery. The discussions also covered enhancing coordination with civil society institutions. Mr. Carlos Oliver Cruz praised the Ministry’s efforts in combating and preventing irregular migration and human trafficking, reaffirming the Egyptian government’s commitment to addressing the root causes of irregular migration, consistent with the national strategy and action plan for 2024-2026.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continued coordination between both parties to address the needs of migrants and returnees effectively and to achieve a sustainable partnership that supports national efforts in this field.
