Mashat stresses importance of promoting cooperation with Afreximbank

International Cooperation Minister Rania Mashat had talks on Monday with Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice-President of the African Export–Import Bank (Afreximbank) on means of cooperating within the framework of preparing for a financing day due to be held during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh in November.

The talks also tackled means of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and countries in the south in order to exchange development and knowledge experts.

This came within the context of ongoing cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The meeting was attended by Oluranti Doherty, the bank’s Director for Export Development.

Mashat called on the bank’s officials to stand on the development financing map in Egypt via the ministry’s website, noting that the current portfolio is dlrs 26 billion for funding 372 projects serving the Sustainable Development Goals.

She noted that about dlrs 11 billion was allocated for climate adaptation and alleviating the impact of climate change under the Goal 13.

Meanwhile, Awani underlined the importance of the strong relations between the bank and the Egyptian government.

She stressed keenness on enhancing cooperation with the Egyptian government within the framework of the preparations.

She also tackled the bank’s participation in the Egypt International Cooperation Forum (Egypt-ICF) – due to be held in September – which aims at coordinating African stances in the fields of supporting entrepreneurship ahead of the United Nations Climate Change (COP27).
