Ministers Ali el Moselhi of Supply and Internal Trade and Rania el Mashat of International Cooperation and Port Said Governor Adel Ghadban laid down the foundation stone of a cereal silo in Western Port Said Port.
The silo’s storage capacity is estimated to stand at 100,000 tons.
The silo will be set up at a total cost of EGP 520 million. The funds were secured through a 13.2 million loan from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) in addition to EGP 276 million provided by the General Company for Silos and Storage.
The silo’s establishment is part of a national project for silos which aimed at reducing the amount of wheat lost and maintaining the quality of wheat for a longer period reaching up to one year and a half, Moselhi said.
The project will raise the total storage capacity to 3.5 million tons, he added.
It is set to be implemented within 18 months and will create about 50 jobs, he said, noting that the silo is close to the railways so that transporting wheat to various parts of the country will be easy.
