Mashat: Egypt’s 2025/26 development plan allocates EGP327 billion in public investments to the health, education, scientific research, and broader social services sectors, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al Mashat stated on Tuesday.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the funding aims to reduce spatial and qualitative development gaps and further improve Egypt’s Human Development Index, which rose from 0.706 in 2015 to 0.75 in 2023/24. The plan allocates EGP85.6 billion for the health sector, EGP63.4 billion for education, and EGP178 billion for other social services.
Of the total EGP327 billion, around EGP219 billion will be funded through the state’s general budget. This represents two-thirds of the investment, underscoring the government’s focus on human capital as a key driver of sustainable development. Al Mashat indicated that healthcare investments alone will reach EGP86 billion, with treasury-backed contributions rising by over 87 percent.
The plan also targets the completion of 47 hospitals, including 41 Ministry of Health facilities and 6 university hospitals, over 70 percent of which are already nearing completion.
