Malaysian PM Lauds Al-Azhar’s Role in Islamic Education During Egypt Visit.


Cairo: Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Anwar Ibrahim delivered a public lecture at the Al-Azhar Conference Centre titled ‘Unity is Strength… A Vision for the Islamic Ummah through Technological, Social and Economic Empowerment’. Ibrahim is currently in Egypt for an official state visit, during which he and President Abdel Fattah El Sisi witnessed the signing of several agreements.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Dr Anwar Ibrahim expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to the Grand Imam Dr Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, for the invitation to deliver the lecture. The Prime Minister praised the Grand Imam’s role as a model of moderation, highlighting his influential and rich contribution in leading Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. He also commended the Grand Imam’s stance on the Palestinian cause.

The Malaysian Prime Minister called upon people to acknowledge Al-Azhar’s significant role, emphasizing its strength and capability in spreading knowledge, fostering creative thinking, and resisting colonial
influences while preserving the identity of the Islamic nation. He stressed the importance of Malaysian educational institutions in nurturing Al-Azhar’s vision of knowledge, encouraging them to be places where students learn to serve the community and think critically.
