Cairo: Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, convened with Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, to assess the progress of various projects under the Ministry of Health. Dr. Mohamed El-Tayeb, Deputy Minister of Health and Population for Governance, Oversight, Monitoring, and Institutional Development, was also present at the meeting.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the health sector, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring every citizen’s right to healthcare. He pointed out that the state is actively working to expand comprehensive health coverage nationwide. Madbouly mentioned the government’s efforts to boost investments in healthcare and foster partnerships with the private sector to enhance service quality by aligning with global health standards. This initiative includes developing major hospitals across all governorates.
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar provided a detailed presentation on the national projects at the Ministry of Health and Population. He mentioned that from 2014 to 2025, 1,254 projects are being implemented across the republic. The projects include infrastructure developments like 20 hospitals expected to be completed by the end of the fiscal year 2024/2025, providing 2,649 beds across 11 governorates. The implementation rates are significant, with 11 hospitals fully completed, while others are near completion.
The Deputy Prime Minister elaborated on the projects slated for completion in the fiscal year 2025-2026, totaling 55 projects and 11,001 beds across 24 governorates. He reviewed the infrastructure projects within Cairo, such as the Nile Medical City “Nasr Institute” and Nile Children’s Hospital, along with developments in the New Administrative Capital.
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar also discussed the establishment of the Capital Medical City, designed for hospitals, educational research, and training institutes, covering 230 acres with 4,223 beds. The review included health projects in other governorates, noting significant progress in Giza, Qalyubia, Kafr El-Sheikh, Damietta, Ismailia, and several others.
The minister addressed the digital transformation of the health system, outlining a comprehensive proposal for a nationwide integrated system developed through government-private sector partnerships. He also highlighted projects aimed at enhancing health facilities’ efficiency, including infrastructure improvements, staff training, and digital transformations.
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar concluded by mentioning efforts to improve the infrastructure surrounding health units and hospitals, including road paving and lighting. The ministry is working with the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Regulation, and the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance to ensure facilities meet quality standards and are prepared for inclusion in the comprehensive health insurance system.
