Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk to follow up on nationwide efforts to convert cars to operate on compressed natural gas (CNG).
According to State Information Service Egypt, at the beginning of the meeting, Madbouly expressed significant interest in converting cars to operate with CNG, emphasizing its cost-effectiveness compared to traditional fuels. He also highlighted its contribution to environmental sustainability and the greater abundance of CNG for consumers.
Madbouly announced that the government will commence the conversion of its own vehicles to natural gas, citing the environmental and financial advantages of such a transition. He underscored the necessity to increase the number of cars slated for conversion, setting a target to double conversions from 122,000 to 250,000 vehicles, while also stressing the importance of offering incentives to encourage this shift.

ts, Minister Badawi presented the projected annual economic benefits of the initiative aimed at deploying one million CNG-powered vehicles. He also outlined the essential conditions required to implement this conversion plan effectively. Badawi pointed out that the transportation sector is a critical component of the gas market, with government initiatives playing a pivotal role in promoting the use of compressed natural gas in both public transport fleets and commercial operations. This aligns with broader national strategies to maximize the use of CNG as a viable alternative to traditional energy sources.
