According to State Information Service Egypt, the Prime Minister emphasized that the meeting follows the outcomes of a previous consolidated meeting that reviewed the outputs of the Advisory Committee for Export Development. The document prepared by committee members was discussed, and it was agreed to hold several consecutive meetings for each sector individually to discuss the requirements to advance them and increase production and exports.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly highlighted that the meeting would focus on three important sectors: ready-made clothing and spinning and weaving, agricultural products, and health sectors. Proposals for the development of the ready-made clothing and spinning and weaving sector were presented, with committee members noting Egypt’s potential to increase its exports in this sector due to its strategic location and numerous free trade agreements.
An ambitious plan was outlined to increase ready-made clothing exports to $11.5 billion within the next six years. This includes providing 5.5 million square meters of industrial land between Fayoum and Qena to create job opportunities in Upper Egypt and conducting an inventory of unutilized public sector assets for leasing to investors to expedite production and export.
Committee members proposed reconsidering the exporters’ burden refund programme and increasing the refund percentage, as well as including the textile and ready-made clothing industry under Zone A of Investment Law No. 72 of 2017. They also suggested developing technical and vocational schools and facilitating the recruitment of foreign experts.
The Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade highlighted efforts to reduce customs release time and improve the exporters’ burden refund programme in coordination with investors. Engineer Kamel El-Wazir confirmed the availability of industrial land in Minya for a textile city, with utilities to be connected immediately.
The Prime Minister directed the expedited connection of utilities in Minya and emphasized government support for Upper Egypt. He also confirmed the government’s readiness to hand over industrial vocational schools to private investors for development.
The medical industries sector was also discussed, with committee members noting its global growth and Egypt’s role in supplying African and Arab countries with effective medical products. Recommendations included establishing a fair pricing system to attract investors, transferring technology for pharmaceuticals and vaccines, and enhancing local added value.
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy discussed efforts to localize the medical industry and increase exports. The agricultural products sector was also reviewed, with committee members noting its significance to the Egyptian economy and proposing solutions to increase exports by 10% to 15% annually.
The Prime Minister affirmed state support across all sectors to increase exports, stressing the removal of obstacles and continuous coordination with investors. He concluded by stating that agreed points would be implemented, while remaining issues would be studied by relevant authorities to boost Egyptian exports.
