First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives, Dr. Abdul Rahim Maayah, said Israeli atrocities in Gaza Strip are a war crime as the occupation practiced various forms of torture, destruction and abuse against a defenseless people. Maayah made the remarks during his participation, at head of a Jordanian parliamentary delegation in the 35th emergency conference of Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on Wednesday. The lawmaker added that His Majesty King Abdullah II and HRH Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II, have always warned of the danger of denying Palestinian rights, and consequences of failing to achieve comprehensive peace, according to the two-state solution. Additionally, he referred to Jordan’s position, which has been calling “reasonably and wisely” to curb the occupation’s practices against Palestinians, adding that Israel continued to build settlements, desecrate sacred sites, and imprison innocent people. Maayah called on the Arab parliaments to support Jordan’s position expressed by His Majesty King Abdullah II, since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, and take clear stances. On future action, he called for addressing international parliaments to expose Israeli practices, mainly collective punishment against Gaza Strip people. He also urged support to Jordan’s position in preserving the existing historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites through the Hashemite custodianship over its sanctities. The MP stressed need to launching campaigns to donate money and blood and press by all means to deliver aid to Gaza people.
