Luxor City Wins the ‘First World Capital of Culture, History and Heritage’ Award


Luxor: The African-Asian Union (AFASU) announced the selection of Luxor City to win the “First World Capital of Culture, History and Heritage” award. This selection came after the final competition with Kyoto, Japan, where Luxor City won unanimously by the Supreme International Committee of the AFASU Golden Awards, which consists of 42 members and representatives from international and global institutions and bodies, appreciating Luxor City’s global status as an icon of human culture and civilization.



According to State Information Service Egypt, Dr. Hossam Mohamed Darwish, President of the African-Asian Union (AFASU), explained that the ‘First Capital of Culture, History and Heritage in the World’ award honors cities with exceptional historical and cultural legacies that enrich human civilization. The award recognizes cities distinguished by efforts in heritage preservation, cultural development, and sustainable tourism promotion, serving as a platform to highlight these cities as global tourist, cultural, and historical destinations.



The African-Asian Union (AFASU) is an international union aiming to enhance cooperation between Africa and Asia in tourism, culture, technology, sustainable development, and innovation through programs and initiatives. The union promotes human values and cultural understanding among peoples. It emerged from the Afro-Asian Peoples’ Solidarity Organization (AAPSO), the second oldest international popular non-governmental organization, established by a decision from African and Asian leaders, an idea launched by Presidents Nehru, Tito, and Abdel Nasser at the Bandung Conference in Indonesia in 1955. The union includes members from 92 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America and acts as one of the executive arms of this venerable organization.
