ABU DHABI: Over 300 attendees working in the sports sector, including representatives from governments, major brands, sports federations, clubs, rights holders, event organisers, and venue operators from the UAE and around the globe gathered in Abu Dhabi today for the Sport Industry Forum for impactful conversations.

For more than a decade, this influential event has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of the sports industry. It provides an unmissable opportunity for senior leaders from the Middle East and beyond to network, exchange ideas, and be inspired by thought-provoking speakers.

The Stern at NYUAD One-year Full-time MBA programme is hosting the two-day forum, which focuses on innovations in sports and physical activity, aiming to promote growth and enhance community well-being throughout the country.

The event was inaugurated by Ghanem Mubarak Al-Hajri, Director-General of the General Authority for Sports, who presented the National Sports Strategy 2031.

He emphasised that UAE sports is he
ading in the right direction, thanks to the continuous support from the wise leadership and the efforts made by all those involved in the sports sector. He said the Strategy aims to enhance community sports, competitive sports and the overall sports system in the UAE. Its objective is to promote sustainable growth and prosperity in the country’s sports sector.

By 2031, the National Sports Strategy will implement 17 initiatives to achieve several goals through three stages, he added.

Dr. Ahmed AlKhazraji, Director-General, Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, spoke about the Health Perspective: Advancing Health, Wellbeing And Activity in Abu Dhabi

He said, “We are committed through our initiatives to create a healthy environment and encourage the adoption of the latest technological advancements to address obesity and enhance overall well-being. By increasing physical activity, we aim to promote a healthier lifestyle for all residents of Abu Dhabi.”

Mohamed Al Balooshi, Executive Director of Community Engagemen
t and Sports, Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, and Ahmed Al Hosani, Executive Director – Strategic Affairs, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, also addressed the event.

The first day witnessed discussions on various topics regarding visions and aspirations for expansion and investment in sports.

The 2024 agenda includes four main themes that reflect the most pressing trends in the sports industry today, namely ‘Investment in Sport: International Expansion by Middle Eastern Companies’; ‘Healthy Cities: Building a Healthy and Physically Active Population’; ‘The Growth and Investment in Women’s Sports in the Region’; and ‘Saudi Sport: Latest Opportunities’.
