Local development min. meets with WB delegation on Upper Egypt Local Development Program

Minister of Local Development Hisham Amna said that Upper Egypt Local Development Program attains special attention from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli in addition to all the ministries participating in its implementation.

This came during Amna’s meeting with a delegation from the World Bank.

Amna expressed his appreciation to the efforts exerted by the World Bank for carrying out the program in the Egyptian governorates over the past five years, noting that these efforts contributed to rendering the program successful and achieved a quantum leap in the performance of the Sohag and Qena governorates.

Upper Egypt Local Development Program contributed to serving 5.6 million citizens from Sohag and Qena via 10.5-billion-pound investments in the sectors of sanitation, drinking water, roads, urban development and environmental conservation, he said.

The program contributes to improving the competitiveness of the governorates via increasing the efficiency of four industrial zones and improving the administration system in them via EGP 6.1 billion investments in addition to developing local economic blocs and improving services offered to citizens, he added.

The Ministry of Local Development was authorized by the political leadership to generalize the practices of the program in Upper Egypt to include all the governorates and the areas targeted by “Decent Life” initiative, he said.

Amna asserted the importance of the expertise of the World Bank in achieving sustainable urban development and economic development.
