Live sheep imports suspended as of May 18-Agriculture Ministry

Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, on Thursday decided to suspend its live sheep import licenses and stop shipments that have not been delivered, as of May 18 until further notice. In a statement, the ministry’s media spokesperson, Lorans Majali, said the decision came within the framework of the ministry’s policy to preserve the local live sheep product, sustain breeder income, and preserve Jordan’s livestock sector. Majali added that this move is taken, given availability of “sufficient” quantities of imported sheep, which cover the local market’s needs for Eid Al-Adha.
