Amman: Lebanese Information Minister Ziad Makary hailed Egypt’s pivotal political and humanitarian role to salvage Lebanon, saying that Lebanon relies heavily on Egypt in stopping the aggression against Lebanon and its people.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Makary, in exclusive statements on the fringe of the 13th Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2024 in Jordan, stated that Egypt is a great and pivotal country in the region and worldwide. He emphasized the hope placed in Egypt’s pioneering status in joint Arab and international action to stop the Israeli aggression against Lebanon and its people.
The Lebanese minister highlighted that Egypt has been playing a crucial role since the beginning of the war, collaborating with Arab and international partners to exert pressure toward ending the hostilities. He praised President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s efforts at both Arab and international levels since the onset of the aggression, noting that El Sisi has spared no effort to advocate for t
he cessation of the war on Lebanon.
Makary underscored the historical and profound nature of Egyptian-Lebanese relations, adding that Lebanon heavily counts on the longstanding Egyptian role in the region. He urged the Arab world to unite and exert greater pressure, alongside Egypt’s efforts, to halt the war that has resulted in significant destruction and devastation in Lebanon and the region.
Regarding Lebanon’s expectations from the upcoming joint Arab-Islamic follow-up summit called for by Saudi Arabia and scheduled for November 11 to address developments in Palestine and Lebanon, Makary conveyed the Lebanese people’s plea to the summit leaders. He stressed that the Lebanese are suffering from the war’s ravages and demand an immediate end to the aggression, expressing their desire to remain in their homeland and preserve it for future generations.
