Cairo: The largest humanitarian aid convoy will depart from Egypt’s capital, Cairo, heading toward the Gaza Strip to assist Palestinians in the besieged enclave. The convoy is scheduled to leave at noon on Sunday, according to a statement from the Al-Azhar Sheikhdom on Saturday.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the convoy, titled “Sharing for Humanity,” will travel to the Rafah border crossing to enter the Palestinian side. The shipment will include medical supplies, equipment, medicines, large quantities of canned food, bottled water, juices, clothes, blankets, carpets, milk, baby formula, diapers for both children and seniors, disinfectants, and personal care items.
The event will be attended by Egypt’s Ministers of Awqaf (Endowment), Youth and Sports, Local Development, Agriculture, Labor, Supply, and Interior Trade. Notable figures such as Sahar Nasr, Advisor to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Executive Director of the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House, and Tamer Abdel Fattah, Executive Director of the Long Live Egypt Fund, will also be present. Additionally, business leaders, artists, and representatives from civil society organizations and NGOs will participate.
Since the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel came into force on January 19, 2025, humanitarian relief efforts continue to flow into the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing. Relief convoys from Egypt, the Arab world, and international relief organizations continue to provide the necessary support to citizens in Gaza who are suffering from the repercussions of the war, the blockade, and the difficult conditions they are living in.
Since the beginning of the flow of aid, the Rafah crossing has witnessed active movement, as shipments of basic food supplies, medicine, blankets, and medical equipment were prepared for hospitals in Gaza. This aid is part of the ongoing efforts to provide urgent humanitarian support to the people of the Strip, who are suffering from a severe shortage of these basic needs.
Officials at the crossing confirmed that loading and unloading operations are taking place regularly to speed up the delivery of aid to those in need in a timely manner. Egypt continues to provide significant support through the Rafah crossing, and other shipments will arrive in succession in the coming days.
